Protecting Your Personal Property

Damage and/or Loss…

To your personal property is not uncommon to experience during your lifetime. Climate change unfortunately can contribute to large scale disasters as we read everyday. However, sometimes you and your property can be affected by extraneous events such as plumbing and electrical issues in your apartment building or home, or perhaps others' accidents/ errors during construction. Shipping, moving and storage are other high risk areas.

When Making an Insurance Claim…

Whether your loss is catastrophic or not, it's important to know:

  • Replacement Value of the property just before the loss

  • Cost to conserve/restore, if possible, and residual effects

  • Loss of Value

  • Replacement Value after the loss

A qualified appraiser experienced in working with insurance loss claims should be able to provide guidance for your valuation issues. Knowing how to expedite and complete reports for this use, it is possible for the appraiser to ease some of the burdens associated with personal property loss and facilitate a speedier claim resolution.

If for any reason an adjuster is needed, keep in mind that an appraiser does not provide this service, but can likely refer you to a qualified adjuster to handle these needs.
