The Today Show, NBC
”ASA Member Details How to Find a Qualified Appraiser on the ‘Today’ Show”(2003)

More than 6.2 million national viewers tuned in to see American Society of Appraisers (ASA) member Fran Zeman, ASA, interviewed on the Aug. 22 "Today" show by news anchor Ann Curry. In the segment, Zeman informed consumers of important points to keep in mind when choosing an accredited appraiser.

Zeman's five-minute interview discussed how to find a qualified appraiser. She noted that consumers need to look for an educated, experienced and accredited appraiser; that one should choose an appraiser with no vested interest in the property being appraised; that an appraiser should not charge a percentage of the property as a fee; and that a valuation takes time to research and analyze.

Zeman, who has Personal Property designations in Antiques and Decorative Arts, Fine Arts, Residential Contents-General and Oriental Rugs, explained in the "Today" show segment that a professionally prepared appraisal report is a document as important as a will and is essential for tax and estate purposes. She told consumers they should choose an accredited member from the American Society of Appraisers.
